This is the only use of obverse 1 and the only use of reverse A.

Obverse 1

The date is cleanly punched, with no repunching evident. There are minor unfinished areas within the loops of the 8. The 4 is unfinished within the upper triangle and on both sides of the upper serif. There are no other notable die markers, but none are needed since this is the only business strike obverse die.

Obverse 1 Die States
  1. Perfect Die.
  2. A single light clash mark is visible in the field under the arm.
  3. Double clashing under the right arm, with rather wide separation.
No later die states have been observed.

Reverse A

1845 Reverse A features one very notable die marker. The next photo shows the heavy die line in shield recesses 4 and 5 that allows easy identification. Additional markers are the extensions of the lowest horizontal shield line, which penetrate the shield border on both ends.
