   This die marriage is currently unknown, but since reverse 1856 PA was used in all years from 1856 through 1859 and
also in 1861 we assume that it was also used in 1860.

Obverse P1
The photo below shows the Obverse P1 attribution grid. Obverse P1 exhibits no significant die markers,
but the date position should be adequate for definitive attribution. The only issue is separating the
proofs from the business strikes which used the same die pair. That’s a judgment call.

Reverse PA
Reverse 1856 PA was used for all 1856 proofs. It was used again in 1857, 1858, 1859, and 1861.
We guess that it was also used in 1860. This die exhibits only a few minor markers – lumps on
S1 and L. Since most proofs seen are relatively high grade they are visible on most examples.
