Comments:
   This is the only use of Obverse 1 and the only use of Reverse A in 1864.
Reverse A is transitional. It was subsequently used to create OC-2, OC-3, and OC-4 in 1865.


Obverse 1

Obverse 1 exhibits no notable die markers, but the high date position is sufficient for conclusive attribution. The photo below shows the Obverse 1 attribution grid.

Obverse 1 exhibits light repunching on the 18, shown in the photo below.

Obverse 1 Die States
  1. Perfect die.
  2. Very faint die clashing visible in Miss Liberty's lap.
No later die states have been observed.


Reverse A

Reverse A displays very faint extensions of the first 3 vertical shield lines that allow definitive attribution for mid- to high-grade examples. These are shown in the following photo.

Reverse A Die States
  1. Perfect die.
  2. A very faint die crack across the top of ERI.
  3. Very faint die clashing visible in the second shield recess.
  4. Faint die cracks surround the reverse.
No later die states have been observed.
