Comments:
This is the only use of Obverse P2 and the third and final use of Reverse PA in 1869.
Reverse 1869 PA is transitional, used again in 1870 to strike 1870 OC-P1.

An additional marker for this obverse is a heavy die line that starts in the denticles under
the 8 and slants up to a point directly below the 9. This line can be clearly seen in the photo.
Obverse P2 Die States
- Perfect die.
No later die states have been observed.

Reverse PA
Reverse 1869 PA has no obvious markers, but it does display minor die doubling that’s visible on the left side
of the motto and on the adjacent elements. This doubling is indicated by the arrows in the photo below.
This is like doubling on several other reverses, particularly Reverse A. The unfinished area between
the lower and middle leaves is much smaller on this reverse.

Reverse 1869 PA Die States
- Perfect die.
No later die states have been observed. This die marriage is frequently seen with die rotations of up to 15 degrees.
An example of this variety has been seen with notable weakness around GOD in the motto. This weakness was apparently
the result of a strike-through, and therefore should not be considered as an advanced die state. The referenced coin,
slabbed by PCGS as PR65 Deep Cameo, was sold by Heritage in their December, 2018, Beverly Hills auction, lot #4201.
