This is the only use of Obverse 1870-CC 1 in San Francisco.
It was previously used in Carson City to strike 1870-CC die marriage OC-1.
This is the only use of Reverse A. Reverse A has not been found in any other years.

Obverse 1870-CC 1

The photo below shows the Obverse 1870-CC 1 attribution grid. This is the only 1870-S die marriage, so the date position is sufficient for attribution.

Obverse 1870-CC 1 Die States
  1. Perfect die.
No later die states have been observed.

Reverse A

The 1870-S Reverse A mintmark is high, located directly under the tip of the arrow feather. The mintmark is small, possibly the result of using a half dollar punch to place it on the die. Some references have speculated that the mintmark was engraved in the die. The second photo shows the repunching on the serifs that indicates this is not true. The mintmark was clearly punched into the die. This is currently the only known repunched mintmark in the Seated dollar series.
