This is the only use of Obverse 9 and the second of three uses of Reverse C in 1871.
Reverse C is transitional, paired with an additional obverse in 1872.

Obverse 9

The photo below shows the Obverse 9 attribution grid.

Obverse 9 exhibits no notable die markers. However, once the reverse is identified as Reverse C the date position should be sufficient to uniquely identify the marriage.

Obverse 9 Die States
  1. Perfect die.
No later die states have been observed.

Reverse C

1871 Reverse C features a light die line joining the middle of WE in the motto, pictured in the next photo. The additional arrows point to two lumps that serve as additional markers on high-grade coins. All these markers are very subtle. They may not be visible on lower grade coins. Even on high grade coins they can disappear if the lighting isn’t at the right angle.

Reverse C Die States
  1. Perfect die.
  2. Faint die cracks cross the top of NITED S and the top of RICA.
  3. The first die crack now crosses the top of UNITED. The second crosses the top of ERICA, extending into the field below A3.
No later die states have been observed. OC-10 has been found only with reverse die state b. Die state c has only been found on the 1872 die marriage.
